WE LOVE this place! It’s our first visit to Austria and we were looking for authentic Austrian meal and this place delivered a home run! First of all, the waiters wear lederhosen and they are super cute to boot! Spare ribs are not to be missed, and the portions are pretty big. It seemed like most diners were locals which tells me that this place is pretty authentic. We were thoroughly impressed with the service as well. They were so helpful with the menu and not annoyed by us wanting to split the check. We are on a conference and we need separate receipts for reimbursement. Go here! You won’t regret it.

This was a nice find. I would really recommend this place for a good authentic Austrian meal. Very quaint. Not noisy. Loved it.

We went here based off reviews of Unilocal and trip adviser. Then we saw the menu and pictures and said we had to go there. We did go early and made reservations and I’m glad we did because people were being turned away.
The staff was very helpful and spoke great English. We all had a different beer and each was excellent. One of us had the Schnitzel and it was amazing. I had the Ratsherrnpfanne and OMG amazing!
Upon leaving we made reservations for our last night in Vienna.

I have been here over three dozen times in the last twenty years and it has been consistent. The wait staff is always pleasant and the atmosphere is the traditional Austria. Everything is priced accordingly and the beer is great! The spareribs is a must and the grilled pork chops are amazing. This is a place you can go more than once during your stay in Vienna.
Hint: Be sure to call ahead of time or stop by in advanced to get your name in to avoid a long wait.

The very first thing they tell you is that «this is RESTAURANT», so if you here for just a few drinks and desserts, they would make sure to let you know that you are not really welcome. And that’s at 3 pm when all tables were empty…

The best goulash I had throughout my time in Europe!
This place I found through the help of Unilocal,and I’m really happy because it was one of the best restaurants I went to in my 14 days in Europe.
It was about a 15 minute walk from our hotel, and it was neatly located in a little alley. There’s outdoor seating, which was all reserved unfortunately. But the indoor was nicely decorated and kept clean, so it was no big deal.
The menus are divided into three different languages: one of which was English. Our server spoke English, and he was incredibly nice. One of the nicest servers we met in Europe.
The prices here from what I recall were varied, so you could spend a 8 – 10 euros on a meal, or you could spend much more if you wanted to. I went with the goulash and speatzel, which was a pretty cheap meal, and the goulash was fantastic. I don’t know what they did to distinguish their goulash from the other 2 – 3 goulashes I had; all I know was that my taste buds liked it much more. And the speatzel was great with the goulash. It was just a typical dumpling that worked great with the heaviness of the goulash. Also, the great part was that I was looking for speatzel in Germany, and the few restaurants that I looked at didn’t have speatzel.
Oh, I also forgot to mention the serving sizes were BIG! You will certainly get your money’s worth here.
So a great value, plus a nice restaurant, mixed with great food and service, makes this place a fantastic place to eat. I could see myself coming back to this place if I lived in Vienna.

Came here on our first night in Vienna. I’d say make a recommendation if you want to get a reasonable seating time (honestly, do this at any moderately popular place in Vienna).
We had the cordon bleu and spareribs. The cordon bleu was just schnitzel with cheese, and the cheese wasn’t melted which was kind of weird. The spareribs were absolutely amazing. The taste was on point and the size made me feel like I truly ate a pig’s worth of ribs. I saw locals in the restaurant also attacking the ribs without finishing them all. We noticed that Purstner also let customers take their extra food home (wrap it up in foil and bag it).
Definitely try this place out!

Really good Austrian food. Close to the historic area, but just far enough away that it isn’t as touristy as others. The waiter provided excellent recommendations.

Was advised by my hotel since we didn’t find any reservation in the famous Figlmuler .
I had the potato salad and veal shnitzel, which was perfectly made and served. Very generous with the potato portion.

We ordered the black pudding, spareribs and boiled beef.
The ribs is perfectly cooked. The meat was not burned and juicy as well.
Other dishes are tasty too, the soup of boiled beef is great and flavorful.

Great local find — thanks to the hotel concierge. In present location for nearly 50 years according to our waiter, who was decked out in traditional lederhosen by the way. Incredible value for the money. Huge portions — but most importantly, you are not rushed while dining. Liked it so much, we ate here twice during our stay in Vienna. Recommend you make a reservation for dinner as it is hugely popular. Challenge you to find tastier spare ribs anywhere in the U. S! Once again — don’t even think of walking in without a reservation!

I’ve been here twice in one month, both times with groups of tourists wanting to sample traditional Austrian cuisine. Really delicious, hearty meals… the service is friendly, beer is great and food authentic. Prices are perfectly reasonable. Would definitely return… The spinatspatzel is super :).

This place was next to our hotel, Appartement-​Hotel an der Riemergasse (Also amazing) and the food was damn good. I wasn’t a fan of Austrian food in general, most of the restaurants were average at best, but this place was fantastic. As an American, I’ll say that Thai/​Vietnamese/​Mediteranean/​Indian options blew away the native European fare, but that’s neither here nor there. This place on the other hand was superb. Great relaxed atmosphere, great service with English speaking waiters, and unbelievable food make this a five-​star restaurant at a relatively budget friendly option. More importantly, because it wasn’t exactly on the touristy streets, many of the patrons were locals, which added to the atmosphere.

Yet another place I went to both times I’ve been to Vienna a year apart. I wanted to bring my parents here because of the interesting decorations and good food. We really enjoyed our calf schnitzel, goulash, and some dish made out of blood and potatoes. The service was pretty good, but I’m pretty sure our server was dying to go home (I don’t blame him, we left 10 min before closing time and we were the only customers left). Yes, this place is touristy, but that doesn’t stop it from being good. I think my party of 4 paid about 70 euro for 3 dishes, beer and wine

Pürstner serves some pretty authentic Viennese food and the portions are ginormous. If you care about your calorie intake, this is definitely not a place you can come eat at every day. For a group of 5 we ordered the Ratsherrnpfanne (pork with mushrooms and dumplings in a cream sauce), Original Wiener Schnitzel vom Kalb (breaded veal), and the Spareribs (which was a full rack). I highly recommend all three items. The waiter spoke English well and service was relatively attentive compared to other places in Vienna.

Wir waren als Touris dort mit mächtigem Hunger. Das Plachuta war uns etwas zu teuer und hat uns vom Ambiente her etwas abgeschreckt, wir hatten Lust auf Uriges!
Durch Zufall (oder Schicksal? ;)) sind wir ins Pürstner geraten und konnten gerade mal so mit Glück 2 Plätze finden. Viele nach uns mussten sogar abgewiesen werden, weil einfach nichts mehr frei war.
Da ich noch nie einen «echten» Wiener Schnitzel gegessen hatte, habe ich mir diesen bestellt und wurde sehr positiv überrascht. Normalerweise bin ich schon ein Soßen-​Liebhaber, aber hier hat auch so alles gestimmt. Richtig knusprig draußen und innen schön zart. Die Portion war riesig! Das Bier vom Fass hat meinem Freund auch sehr gemundet.
Das war bestimmt nicht das letzte Mal, dass wir hier waren. Für uns ab sofort ein Muss bei einem Wien Ausflug!

Went to Pürstner with friends for a Saturday night dinner. We ate outside, which was pretty much our only choice as it was so hot in Vienna that night. Outside eating options seem to be limited to parties of about 5, but there appears to be lots of room for larger parties inside. Out waiter was helpful, patient and attentive. We started by ordering the pork ribs entrée as an appetizer. I highly recommend you do the same if you have a party of about 4 – 6. We were all really impressed. I ordered the goulash with spätzle (Rindsgulasch) and couldn’t have been happier. My friends ordered the Backhendl, the Schweinsfiletspitzen, and the Wäschermädlpfanne. All of the portions were generous and all of the reviews from others in my party we very positive. We enjoyed a couple of bottles of wine with dinner, which were perfect. Highly recommended. Fun group spot.

Ein Lokal, welches ich NIE WIEDER besuchen werde. Die Speisen hatten einen Namen, aber schmeckten nicht so, wie sie schmecken sollten. Die Bedienung nahm die Bestellungen falsch auf. Eine Mischung von verschiedenen Küchen werden angeboten, aber die Geschmäcke fehlen. Die Preise sind zu hoch. Die Räume sind kühl. Auch im Kaminzimmer, wenn das Feuer brennt, ist es kalt.

ich kann keinen der vorab geschriebenen, negativen Kommentare nachvollziehen, aber sie sind ja auch schon ein wenig alt, vielleicht hat sich ja wirklich grundlegend etwas geändert.
Wir habem im Plachuta um die Ecke keinen Platz bekommen, was hatten wir für ein Glück, im Pürstner durch Zufall gelandet zu sein. Die Speisekarte bietet alles, was die Wiener Küche berühmt gemacht hat, und alles, was wir probierten war von ausgesprochen guter Qualität. So gut, dass wir trotz des riesigen Angebots an Restaurants in Wien am nächsten Abend wieder hin gegangen sind.
Auch die Kellner waren sehr schnell und waren immer nett und zuvorkommend. Einzig die EUR4,10 für 0,1l offenen Wein fallen ein wenig aus dem Rahmen, aber wir haben eh Bier getrunken.
Für mich ein Lokal, das ich auf alle Fälle wieder besuchen werde!

It feels like an Austrian mother might actually be in the kitchen cooking dinner for friends and family, and you’re just lucky enough that she allows you to come visit as her guest. Everything was delicious, service was prompt and friendly, and the unfiltered beer was delicious!

habe mit interesse die erschütternden berichte zur kenntnis genommen. meine erfahrungen mit dem Pürstner beruhen auf drei Besuchen in den Jahren 2002, 2005 und 2007. ok, lang ists her. in dieser zeit aber war jedesmal das wienerschnitzel, weshalb ich/​wir gezielt dorthin gingen, leckerst und der krachlederne service urig und in ordnung. bei meinem nächsten wienbesuch, werd ich das wieder überprüfen.

The atmosphere of this place reminds you of a cozy 100-​year old hunting lodge in the alps. Service and food are very good, and they have English menus. I had a good dark local beer, and pork medallions in a blue cheese cream sauce with spinach spaeztle. Finished with their home made apple struedel. Very yummy.

Das Pürstner ist ein sehr uriges Beisl mit traditioneller Wiener Küche im 1. Bezirk! Das Lokal war überfüllt mit ausgestopften Tieren, alten Fotos und Bildern und diversem anderen Kitschkram. Für Touristen bzw. Neu-​Wiener wie uns hat so ein Ambiente sicherlich seinen Reiz. Ob «echte» Österreicher unbedingt auf sowas stehen, wage ich zu bezweifeln. Entsprechend war das Lokal auch voll mit Touristen, vorzugsweise aus Russland, und Einheimische waren Mangelware.
Die Ober in traditionellen Trachten (mit kurzen Hosen) waren witzig anzuschauen und relativ freundlich bzw. aufmerksam.
Ich bestellte die Pürstnerpfanne — das Aushängeschild des Lokals. Auf den Bildern im Internet sah diese grandios aus. In Realität: naja… Die größte Enttäuschung waren die Röstis… In der Karte als Beilage vermerkt, auf den Bildern im Internet abgebildet, aber leider nicht auf dem Teller enthalten. Stattdessen bekam ich lediglich etwas, was schmeckte und aussah wie eine Mischung auf Rösti-​Teig und Erdäpfelpuree. Der Kalbs– und Rinderrücken war ok, nicht mehr und nicht weniger. Die Gemüsebeilage dazu war etwas langweillig. Insgesamt hätte dem Essen ein wenig mehr Salz nicht geschadet. Auch die Portionsgröße war relativ knapp bemessen. Mit einem großen Bier war es gerade noch ausreichend. Alles in allem, war ich ziemlich enttäuscht — vor allem bei dem Preis von 16,20 € (das studentische Portemonnaie blutet).
Das Backhenderl meines Freundes (12,80 €) war für mich viel zu fettig und auch der Erdäpfelsalat hat mich nicht vom Hocker gehauen. Er war jedoch — nicht zuletzt wegen der großzügigen Portionsgröße — relativ zufrieden mit seinem Gericht.
Ob ein großes Otterkringer unbedingt mit 3,70 € zu Buche schlagen muss, ist eine andere Frage. Aber das kann /​muss man im 1. Bezirk wohl in Kauf nehmen…
Die Wiederholungsgefahr hält sich jedoch in Grenzen.

Vor Jahren mal zum Essen gewesen — das Essen war OK, die Bedienung mittelmäßig.
Kürzlich wollten wir dort (erstmal) nur auf ein Bier gehen — keine Chance, das fast komplett leere Restaurant sei ein reines Speiselokal, wurde uns recht unfreundlich beschieden. Im nächsten Lokal haben wir dann nach 2 Bier doch Hunger bekommen und gegessen — beim «Pürstner» wird man uns jedenfalls nicht mehr sehen.

Am 22.05.10 waren wir als angemeldete Gruppe von 20 Personen im Pürstner. Der Kellner kam selten, Bestellungen wurden lange Zeit nicht angenommen und die Getränke kamen ewig nicht. Auf das Essen mußten wir 1 Stunde lang warten, dafür war zumindest das Essen gut.
Das Bier schmeckte schal und abgestanden, eine Beanstandung wurde mit dummen Bemerkungen des Kellners kommentiert, ein Ersatz nicht geleistet. Der Wein war teuer aber nicht besonders.
Das Schlimmste kam dann zum Schluß: als wir zahlen wollten, wurde uns offenbart, daß sicher nicht einzeln abgerechnet wird, die rechnung muß gesamt beglichen werden. Eine einzelne Abrechnung hätten wir vorab anmelden müssen! Erst nach langen Verhandlungen mit dem Geschäftsführer ermögliche es uns, daß wir «gnädigerweise» einzeln bezahlen «durften».
Fazit: Teuer, unfreundlich, Bier schlecht, null Bemühen um die Kunden — großräumig meiden!!!

Un joli restaurant à l’autrichenne près de l’eglise de Saint Stephane. J’ai mangé la celèbre Wienerschnitzel, et elle etait si grande, qui sortait de l’assiette.

Die Riemergasse ist eigentlich eine recht kahle Straße im Zentrum von Wien, und die Fassade des Pürstner ist auch nicht unbedingt überzeugend — von außen sieht es aus wie ein x-​beliebiges Lokal. Ist man aber erst einmal drinnen, offenbart sich ein beinahe unendlich tiefer Gastraum, verwinkelt, liebevoll und abwechslungsreich dekoriert (rustikaler Hüttencharme), so daß man sich trotz der fehlenden Fenster sehr gemütlich und wohl fühlt (normalerweise hasse ich Restaurants, bei denen fehlende Fenster einfach nur durch neonbeleuchtete Milchglasscheiben als «Pseudofenster» ersetzt werden).
Besonders nett: Geht man ganz weit nach drinnen, findet man sich in einer Art Skihütte wieder und vergißt, daß man sich tief im innern eines Häuserblocks befindet. Die schräge Decke aus dunklen Holzbohlen und Fachwerk, zusammen mit vielen kleinen Lampen machen die Illusion perfekt (auch auf den obligatorischen Kachelofen muß nicht verzichtet werden). Dadurch, daß das Restaurant so verwinkelt ist, kann man sich auch in normaler Lautstärke unterhalten, was sehr angenehm ist.
Das Essen ist reichhaltig nach bodenständiger, österreichischer Art, die Karte bietet viel Auswahl und gibt einem die Möglichkeit, begleitende Touristen mit allerlei lokalen Spezialitäten zu füttern (unbedingt das Wiener Schnitzel probieren!). So rustikal wie das Interieur und das Essen ist auch die Bedienung: In zünftigem Lederoutfit schwingt auch das Personal eine lockere Zunge und trägt zur unverkrampften Atmosphäre bei (wer gesiezt wird, wurde offenbar als Tourist identifiziert ;). Zu Hauptverkehrszeiten muß man etwas Zeit mitbringen, denn gutes Essen braucht seine Zeit und die «Tiefe» des Lokals bedeutet längere Wege fürs Personal.
Abschließend sei noch auf die ausführliche Getränkekarte verwiesen, mit der man ein leckeres Essen (Wiener Weine!) vorzüglich beschließen kann. Im Sommer kann man auch im «Schanigarten» sitzen, was ich leider nicht testen konnte (war im Januar doch noch etwas kalt ;).
Fazit: Uneingeschränkt empfehlenswert, besonders in touristischer Begleitung, wenn diese nicht auf Halligalli aus ist. Das Preisniveau ist in Ordnung.
