Stopped by on a whim as I felt like a banh mi. They have a special sautéed curry beef banh mi, so I got one of those, iced coffee, and house roll to go. The house roll is really good– messy, but really tasty. The only negative thing I could say about the banh mi was I wish I was bigger!!! The meat was richly flavored, all the veggies were fresh. Well worth the slightly higher price. I’ll definitely be back!

They have a reasonably priced, vegetarian phở option! A great rainy day spot to people watch while you hover over a delicious bowl of steaming broth.

Love this place! I am a vegetarian and this is one of the only phở restaurants I’ve found that have a vegetarian broth. Come here weekly for take out and the service is always fast and friendly. Great prices and yummy food(especially their subs) If you’re ever on Denman I’d recommend coming here.

The food here was pretty decent! I got phở with rare beef. The broth was tasty and the noodles were good.

Mmm one of my favourite Vietnamese places to go to! Nothing bad has happened … YET haha Phở: we usually get the phở with bbh soup because the spicy soup makes it so much better! The broth here is so flavourful and delicious with good amount of meat and noodles House roll: delicious! And so genius. Having a spring roll is just not filling enough so wrapping it up with veggie and noodles is prefect. Was a bit not happy because I asked for only lettuce nothing else, but they put carrots and radish in it… no big deal but was a hassle to take out! Mango sticky rice: this dish would have been so much better if the coconut sauce was not so curdled and thick :(but tasted good overall I guess! Sticky rice was good and the mango was sweet and delicious

Me and my wife have been going here for the last 3/months at least twice a week and for the very obvious reasons of loving the place, the food, and an amazing lady named Joyce who serves us like we are family. We have always gone back more for her as she is probably the best server we have come across in years. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago I found a dead ant inside the cauliflower of the phở that I was relishing and when I let the staff know they immediately took care of it and got me a new one. I understand that things happen in any Restaurant and we obviously chose to ignore it and still kept going to the place again. However today I experienced the same issue in my phở with a dead ant floating around, and my wife’s entre had a tiny hair in it as well which did not help the experience. I was extremely disappointed, yet we paid the bill in full and left. While I dont expect any restaurant to have a 100 percent control over everything, I do feel there are basics that every place should keep in mind. This is a perfect t example of a place that has so much potential but just needs extra attention. I am extremely disappointed and would probably give it a miss for sometime. Its just sad given how much we love this place, but the second time with the exact experience is a hard one to just get over, I hope they work basic hygiene.

Gluten free steam bun sandwich. Wow. 3 different meats of your choice, pulled pork, curry beef, and chicken. The bun is slightly sweet and soft, throw some spice in here and yum yum yum. My bf introduced me this spot that was previously our favorite sushi joint. I’ve had the phở here. I wasn’t keen and the other food doesnt really do it for me, but those steam buns baby, grab one today, you will enjoy it. Also try the mango and coconut dessert. Very smooth and the contrast of the warm rice and cold mango is a total hit.

I’ve eaten here many times and have reviewed this restaurant before, but although they still have a delicious lemongrass chicken Vietnamese sub, their service has gone down. The last three visits here I’ve either had a long wait for my meal, or gotten my appetizer after my meal, or today had a ‘mix up’ in our order. Regardless, the lunch was still as delicious as always, and I’m sure I’ll return again.

Came here for the first time with my girlfriend and we each did a bowl of phở. I had the vegetarian phone and she had the seafood phở. The serving size is quite large and the food was very good. It was a nice balance of soup noodles and various other additions to the phở. I’m not a big fan of wasting food so both of us asked for take out bowls. We ended up eating our phở later on however did not taste the same. The service was good. Conclusion: The food was great, the service was great and the ambiance was good be it small which in my opinion is benign. Tip: if you’re if you’re going alone a bowl of photo is quite a bit. However, if you’re going with a friend or significant other, share with them and get a couple appetizers. If you get takeout or plan to take what you haven’t finished; eat it as soon as possible as the taste of your soup and noodles consistency will not be the same.

Came here after exploring Stanley Park for three hours and we wanted something soothing and not too heavy. The food was very delicious! The name of the store is very cute and we were greeted by welcoming staff. They serve us water in mason jars, such a cute concept! My family ordered the classic phở with beef brisket, rare beef, tripe, and beef balls while I ordered the grilled chicken and spring roll vermicelli. Portion sizes are very huge and SOO filling! The flavors were also on point! They have a very good soup base and the grilled chicken was cooked perfectly with great seasoning. It is conveniently located on Denman St, which appears to be a very lively street that is good for strolling and checking out. It is very close to the beach so coming here for lunch and then taking a walk around the area sounds like a good afternoon to me! :)

Very good phở. I liked the Bun Bo Hue best but the Phở Tai was fresh(just like everything else). I’ve had better phở broth but this is definitely still good. The watermelon smoothie was good but the avocado smoothie was amazing. charming décor and location I’ll definitely go back

Everything I eat in my hometown I’m always comparing to what I’ve had in the s. california around 10 yrs ago because honestly they have fresher, cheaper, and more flavorful food. These days everything is expensive and food is going downhill. First timer and thought I would give them a try bc I haven’t found a bahn mi sandwich place I like yet. I spent $ 5.50 plus tax on a lemongrass bahn mi sandwhich that was supposed to come with the usual — but had one string of cilantro and no cucumber after I expressly asked for the vegetables which I prefer over the meat. The sandwhich had some awful tasting(to me like cat food smell) ham pâté rubbed on the inside and the chicken which is usual in vancouver vietnamese establishments serving this sandwhich, tasted like it was cooked, cooled, then re-heated to a lukewarm texture. There bun was a little chewy, not really warmed enough but ok. I didn’t find any dressing other than the horrible ham pâté which does not go well with chicken. When asked, they wondered why the ham pâté was in there… it’s almost like there is some kid in the back pretending to be the cook or chef and playing tricks on people! :/ Not sure what people are raving about. Expensive for what you get(strings of carrot and daikon with a little chicken) and not really good. I haven’t tried their soups or other items so I can’t comment on that.

I really, really wanted to eat here because I was sick and have been eyeing it every time we walk on Denman. I never ended up having their soup because as soon as I looked at the menu, my eyes caught the kitchen. Their chef sneezed without covering her mouth. That was enough for me to cross this place off my list. Simply got up and left without giving them an explanation. Will not be going back.

Terrific food and service! I was visiting from Vegas and walking Denman Street and this small restaurant pulled me in. I ate there once and then got food to go once and ate across the street at the giant park. Very clean flavors. Great prices. Seating was limited to small tables with armless chairs or bench. Down 3 steps was counter with bar stools. Very tight seating.

Really solid grub for peanuts at this Downtown Vancouver Vietnamese diner. Phở is always great but I wanted to try something different so I had the lemongrass chicken plate. It was super delicious and completely satisfying. Ridiculous value for the money, clocking in around $ 10 Canadian. Really friendly, down-home staff. Wish I’d have had room for a baoguette too… intriguing.

Overall: Two stars. perhaps 2.5 stars at most. Food:(minus one star for better alternatives and poor quality of some dishes) — Tapioca dumplings: 80% starch, 20% filling… not a good ratio in my opinion. If you are craving these, go to Mui Ngo Nai. Don’t bother with them here. — Papaya salad: bland and tasteless.. I suspect they forgot the dressing as I had to add my own(dip from the tapioca dumplings). If you are on Denman, and willing to walk a bit for a WAY better quality salad, go to the other little place Café Phin and Phở. Having eaten papaya salad on the streets of Hanoi, I don’t expect authenticity but I DO expect tasty food. This was neither. — Meatball baguette: Actually quite tasty the meatball was well seasoned and tender, the veggies and pickles were fresh. Not a bad choice if you are hungering for a bite on the run. — Lemongrass chicken salad roll: had a hair in it. Enough said. Return to sender. Service:(minus two stars for overall experience) We were greeted by a grumpy wait staff first of all, but that can be overlooked because I wouldn’t be happy working on Easter long weekend either. However, what could NOT be forgiven were: — 1. We did not order the meatball sub, we ordered the spicy grilled beef one. — 2. If there is a HAIR in my food that is not mine, I expect an apology. Not a grunt… and belated apology 10 mins later. Ambiance : Cozy. no complaints, has a water view going for it.

This place is a welcome addition to English Bay, with the only other Vietnamese place around being a tiny phở place a few blocks down. Ambiance-wise, Baoguette goes up a notch and the feel is cozy and warm. The restaurant gets really busy during weekday lunches(probably during weekends too) for good reason: food is fresh and flavourful, and at $ 5.25+ for a banh mi, well-priced. The lemongrass chicken is always juicy and not-overcooked, and marinated all the way through.(I like it on the vermicelli but it’s also very good in the sandwiches). Phở also comes out piping hot and they use decent cuts of beef — nice and tender. I see a lot of reviews for Bun Bo Hue so I must return to try that!

Amazing food and friendly staff ! I really enjoyed the taste of my noodles soup with beef and beef meat balls, super yumm Fresh lemon soda is the best I’ve ever had Place is not fancy, small, but to make a stop for a lunch is perfect, good location, nice view, can see part of the ocean, mountains and different people walking on the street.

This place has good vietnamese food with a total hipster vibe. Located right across from English Bay(where the Ai WeiWei laughing statues are). Their hot and sour seafood soup noodles(you can ask to substitute the seafood for rare beef) is delicious, reminiscent of tom yum kung(which I love). Their chicken banh mi is also — delicious, packed with fresh ingredients, their baguettes is nice and crunchy. Their presentation is modern(total hipster), water is served out of mason jars, food is served on wooden chopping blocks, with your sprouts and lime on the side on parchment paper. I also tried their Bun Bo Hue(beef stew noodles) and thought it was a little on the oily side. Not sure if it was an off day as friends have raved about this dish when I went to eat the first time. The owner is super friendly, they also own another Phở restaurant somewhere along Davie St. Definitely will be going back to try other things on their menu!

Nice to find a downtown Phở option and what a great location right by English Bay! We were told the wait would be 30mins but ended up being over an hour — this is a small restaurant! Not totally their fault though as one table must have had the slowest eater we ever saw. She would literally put the noodles on her soup spoon, hold it while talking for another 3mins before finally eating a bite. But whatever, we did notice if you come after 7:30 it’s pretty dead and easy to get seated. At least the restaurant is clean and next time we will probably just get some banh mis to go and eat on the grass or on the beach, again, really convenient and just off the bike path. The phở’s broth was tasty, good flavour, lots of meat(beef balls, rare beef, tripe), noodles well cooked and plenty of uncooked beansprouts on the side with a small lime wedge and basil. This place is more of a hipster phở with their water served in mason jars and the phở coming out on big wood trays. It was a nice night and we ate on their patio and enjoyed a great view. We also tried the beef stew — very flavourful and choice of rice or bread. If you choose the bread as we did they actually give you a whole baguette. We tried their mango with coconut sticky rice($ 4.50) for dessert and it was ok. Decent portion for the price but nothing super special. We will definitely be back to try out other items on their menu. The prices are higher than what you m
